Some banks reject a payment when the payee name on the transfer is not exactly the same as (or close enough to) the name on the beneficiary bank account. Invoice extraction and e-invoices often use a slightly different legal form, trading name, or abbreviation than the name your bank expects.
Cortena can send the matched Accounts Payable Master Supplier legal name as the payee instead of the name on the invoice PDF or e-invoice.
1. Why banks reject some payee names
When you authorize a FinAPI payment (or download a pain.001 XML for an international FinAPI batch), Cortena sends a creditor / payee name with the IBAN.
Banks and payment rails may:
- Compare the payee name to the account holder on file
- Reject the payment if the strings are too different (extra legal suffix, missing GmbH/AG, trading name vs registered name, OCR typos from the PDF, e-invoice party name variants)
The name Cortena extracted from the invoice can be correct for bookkeeping and still be wrong for the bank. The Master Supplier record is usually where you keep the name that matches how the supplier is known to the bank.
2. Turn on the setting
- Open Settings → Integrations → FinAPI.
- Find the checkbox Use matched Master Supplier name for payments.
- Turn it on.
When the box is checked:
| Situation | Payee name used |
|---|---|
| Invoice is linked to an Accounts Payable supplier | Master supplier legal name |
| No linked master supplier (or empty legal name) | Invoice / e-invoice supplier name (same as before) |
Off (default): FinAPI always uses the supplier name stored on the invoice (extracted or from the e-invoice).
3. What it affects
| Path | Uses Master Supplier name when enabled? |
|---|---|
| FinAPI SEPA: Authorize payment (Web Form) | Yes |
| FinAPI International: Download XML (pain.001) | Yes |
| Embat / Agicap / Qonto / EBICS payments | No (FinAPI setting only) |
Link or fix the Master Supplier on the invoice (linked supplier) before sending for payment if you rely on this option.

Tips and limitations
- Keep Master Supplier legal names aligned with how beneficiaries appear at the bank.
- Turning the setting on does not rewrite invoice supplier names in Cortena. It only changes the name sent on the payment.
- If payments still fail after enabling, confirm the IBAN and that the linked master name matches the account holder; contact the bank if their verification rules are stricter than name similarity.
