# Approval matrix variants: override, any one approver, all amount tiers

Override by permission, any one matched approver strategy, and require all reached amount tiers on Approval nodes.

Three optional controls on approval steps change who can finish an invoice and how matrix lanes combine: **override by permission**, **any one matched approver**, and **require all reached amount tiers**.

**Who this is for:** Workflow admins configuring Approval nodes, and user admins granting the override permission for holiday cover.

## 1. Override approval by permission

Use when a cover person must approve, reject, hold, or delegate even though they are not on the matrix assignees.

1. **Settings → User permissions**: grant **Override approval workflow decision**. This is **not** included in Full access; grant it explicitly.
2. On the **Approval** node (matrix mode), enable **Allow override by Override approval workflow decision permission**.
3. Publish the workflow.

Users with that permission can complete pending matrix lanes from the invoice strip when the node allows override (useful for holidays or urgent invoices).

## 2. Any one matched approver

1. Open the Approval node → **Approval strategy**.
2. Choose **Any one matched approver can complete the invoice**.
3. Cortena still matches the approval matrix, then builds **one** lane with the union of matched approvers. **Any one** of them completes the step.

With **Allow approval delegation**, **Delegate** lists other people **already assigned** on the invoice; picking one drops you and keeps the rest (not the full matrix directory).

## 3. Require all reached amount tiers

1. On the Approval node, enable **Require approval from all reached amount tiers**.
2. Example: an invoice of €15k can require both the under-€10k lane and the €10k–€25k lane in parallel.

This option is **not** available together with **Any one matched approver**. The editor turns the tiers checkbox off when that strategy is selected.

Other strategies (for example approver for the largest line) remain available; see [Approval matrix](https://help.cortena.ai/guides/workflows/approval-matrix).

## Tips and limitations

- Matrix assignment still uses your booking-account / amount rules spreadsheet.
