# Comment on invoice Activity (chat)

Leave markdown notes on the invoice Activity timeline; show, hide, or view only chat.

Leave notes on an invoice’s **Activity** timeline so colleagues see context next to edits, exports, and workflow steps, without leaving the invoice.

**Who this is for:** AP clerks, reviewers, and controllers who need a short handoff note on a payable, expense, or receivable invoice.

## 1. Open Activity and write a comment

1. Open an invoice in **Payables**, **Expenses**, or **Receivables**.
2. Open the **Activity** tab (or side panel).
3. Above the comment box, choose how chat appears:
   - **Show chat** — comments appear with other activity (default).
   - **Hide chat** — comments are hidden from the timeline **and** the composer is hidden.
   - **Only chat** — the timeline shows comments only.
4. When **Show chat** or **Only chat** is selected, type in the composer.
5. Use the toolbar for **bold**, *italic*, strike, lists, code, and links.
6. Press **Send**, or **⌘/Ctrl+Enter**. **Enter** alone starts a new line.

Your last chat filter choice is remembered in this browser.

Comments appear on the timeline under your name, with a light green background so they are easy to spot among other events. Comments sent via MCP show as your name · **MCP**.

Permission required: **View invoice activity log** (same as reading Activity).

## 2. What you can format

| **Formatting** | **How** |

| Bold / italic / strike | Toolbar or markdown (`**bold**`, `*italic*`) |

| Code | Inline code button |

Images and arbitrary HTML are not supported. Comments cannot be edited or deleted after send. They are part of the audit trail.

## 3. Include chat in an Activity PDF

**Audit package PDF** uses the same chat filter as the timeline:

- **Show chat** — comments are included with the active filter (**All**, **User**, …).
- **Hide chat** — comments are omitted from the PDF.
- **Only chat** — the PDF is comments only.

## Tips and limitations

- Filter chips at the top (**All**, **User**, **Edits**, **Workflow**, **Exports**) still apply when **Show chat** is on. **Only chat** ignores those chips and shows comments only.
- Hiding chat does not delete comments. Switch back to **Show chat** or **Only chat** to see them again.
